Summer & Fall Activities
Visiting Blue Mesa Reservoir is an easy breezy 15 minute drive from the lodge. Enjoy boating, fishing and hiking. Blue Mesa is widely regarded as the best Kokanee salmon fishery in the United States, and home to the state record Lake Trout. Our guest also have access to fish our community lakes and streams.
If you are an animal lover like we are, you will enjoy what you might see visiting Arrowhead. Deer, elk, moose, bear, coyote, fox, rabbit, eagles and other birds, fish; all of the forest’s wonderful creatures, large and small, they are all here! If you stay long enough you are sure to run into many!
The Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park is a short 35 mile drive from the lodge. You have access to trails less than 15 minutes away for all levels of hikers. The old logging roads and some of the trails we enjoy on our snowmobiles during the winter provide ample places to explore on foot right from the lodge as well.
This is really an all-year activity, but summer and fall gives us some of the most spectacular sights. Highly recommend taking the 10 minute trip to the top of Alpine Plateau rd for views of the San Juan Mountains, fields of wildflowers, and you might catch a shot of a bear, moose or elk.
Off – Roading
We are located on County Road 867, a dirt road that takes you 8 miles from Lake City on Highway 149. Easy access to the Alpine Loop, Cinnamon and Engineer Passes. For the single track enthusiast you can take a trail from the Big Blue Camp Ground to Silverjack reservoir.
We also have many miles of fire and old logging roads minuets from lodge. My favorite being the old stock drive trail located very near the Lodge
